Max Payne 3 - New York Minute Guide/Tips (V2)

New York Minute is the classic speed-run mode from the original Max Payne, and it will be unlocked after you have completed the story once in any difficulty. At the beginning of each chapter, you will have 1:00 on your clock and the goal is finish the Chapter as much remaining time as possible. (Not as fast as you finish the chapter). To add time to your clock, you have to kill enemy and have some good use of the environment to help.

Notice: If you die in a checkpoint, you need to restart the chapter instead of checkpoint.

Tips to Platinum/Beginner Guide: (Base on my Personal Experience in this mode)
New York Minute Mode is to challenge you to finish a chapter with as much time left as possible, so If you want to get the most time in a Chapter, you need to know about:

- Enemy Spawn location, How many enemy will come and shoot, what weapon they are using
- The map (to make sure you don't go to the wrong place)
- Pain killer Location (Important if you don't have enough)
- How to perform your kill and what type of kill to use (Bullet time, weapon of choice...)
- How to finish it as quick as you can (Fast + get maximum time on kill = More time)
- Which weapon have more damage, Dual Wield or two-handed weapon?
- Perform your own style
- Use the correct button in quick event

This may require a lot of time for you to remember about that.

For Experience Gamer, if you think you have enough Pain killer at a checkpoint, you don't need to grab more if a Pain killer is a bit far from you and you don't want to waste time to get that.

Dual Wield is more effective than a single weapon, make sure you don't waste too much ammo otherwise you need to get a new weapon or find more ammo, make sure you don't die since if you have no ammo but still have Pain killer, you will also die instantly!

The reload time for some weapon like Revolver while in Dual wield will reduced. When in shootdodge Maxwill perform quick reload too.

1.1 Bullet time
Bullet time is extremely useful in New York Minute since you can take out enemy faster. Here are the way to increase your Bullet time bar.
•    Shoot the enemy
•    Kill the enemy(not increase when that is explosion kill)
•    Successful melee a enemy
•    Get shot
•    Bullet river....(mean when someone fire but didn't hit you,you will increase a very little bullet time)

When you get into last stand and kill a enemy, you will lost all the bullet time you have after that, so be careful.

1.2.1 Bullet time+Melee
I can say this is a part of my own style. If you don't want to get shot (or too many shot), enter bullet time and keep rolling until you are close enough to your enemy and then melee to finish the job.

There are three of my Style when perform Bullet time+Melee.
I.Bullet time - body shot - Bullet time(End) - Roll/Run - Bullet time - Roll/Run - melee
That mean you need to shoot a enemy first but not kill him(you will get very short time to run/roll to him during that moment since he can't shoot you),when he try to aim and shoot again, shoot another bullet to him and run and roll in bullet time, then melee him to finish the job. If you don't understand, just look at the 9:34 - 10:01 in the video.

II.Bullet time - roll - melee(Short range)
Melee a enemy in short range, but make sure you don't get shot. Enter bullet time and keep rolling to avoid get shot.

III.Bullet time - roll - melee - bullet time - roll - melee(More than 1 enemy)
If there are few enemies around you and you want to melee them all, you can try this one, there are many example in this video. Just make sure you melee a enemy then quickly enter bullet time to avoid get shot.

1.2.2 Safe Melee
You may not want to deal with shotgun/High Fire Rate SMG/Rifle when you deal with other. If you want to melee, you better melee those carry High Fire Rate Weapon enemy and then melee other enemy.

If you want to safe and just pass the chapter, you can kill the SMG/Rifle/Shotgun gun instead of melee them, melee those carry Pistol since those can't kill you fast enough (Except low health situation...)

1.2.3 Enemy will melee you back?
The answer is yes, when you are close enough to them but you can't melee them. Others like:
- close to them but camera can't see them a lot or melee but the clock not stop due to camera problem
- While they are crouching and you are standing(you can melee them back in this situation, just change the position and you can find many of them can't shoot you too!)

2.Good use of the Environment
You will see some explosive action in the video. (Propane Tank, Vehicle)

Propane Tank and Vehicle is one of the best way to get more time. If the enemy is close to those object. When explosion, enemy will be killed if they are close enough and you mostly will get Time+Explosion bonus (5+5=10 secs for each enemy kill in explosion)

Vehicle have it own bonus, you destroy any of them, you get 10 secs for "Vehicle bonus" and also get 10 secs for each enemy kill in explosion.

Those object will take around 3.5 secs to explosion. Be careful, don't stand too close of explosion or you will die too!

3.Run,shoot and kill!
Time will not go back, you have to kill all enemy as fast as you can to gain more time to your clock and avoid loss too much of them.

You can use cover, but don't stay for too long or you will lost many time, that what New York Minute Mode want to challenge you - Good use of bullet time and get most time in a single chapter, complete the chapter as fast as you can.

4.Pain killer
Pain killer is another Partner, you need to make sure you have enough Painkiller before you get in some difficulty part so you can have some good use of them.

Painkiller location guide by Me.

For experience gamer, you may already know that you don't need to get every single Painkiller since it will waste your time, so just get the Painkiller that is close to you or in the road that you are performing your action.
Like the part at the dock, if you sure you have enough Painkiller, just forget about extra Pain killer, run and shoot to the end. The dock part start at 7:28 in this video.

5.Grenade Launcher - Effective and Deadly Weapon
Grenade Launcher can be found on Chapter 8, Chapter 12 and Chapter 14. It is a deadly weapon in this game, it can help you gain a lot of time of explosion bonus, but it also can kill you in a single shot on Normal difficulty.

Use it carefully to deal with enemy and avoid shoot too close to yourself. Beside that, is a god weapon to get a lot of time!

6.Difficulty/some other little tips
I. This mode will unlock after you finish the story once in any difficulty. Complete a chapter to unlock a new chapter. (If you finish Chapter 1 then you will unlock Chapter 2,etc...)This mode is base on Normal difficulty too.

II. If you find it difficult, you can use Soft Lock to help you aim, the only thing is in Free aim you will get a little bit more time than Soft Lock (happen in console version).

III. Hate Laser, flashlight? You can turn it off by press
back(xbox360) / select(ps3) to turn off and the bullet point will back.

IV. Confused and don't know where is the enemy? Don't worry, just pause the game and switch around to find the "missing enemy" and shoot, that can help you to save a little bit time and affect your rank too.

V. Rolling in stair is faster than running up and down(is strange if you can do that in reality...), so use it when you need to go up(can't use it when you already in stair) or down.

VI. End the game by using bullet time+roll. If you have any bullet time left at last, don't waste it, use it and keep rolling and of course you can save very little time of it (Waste time in reality :p)
